67 Burger: Meh

I was finally able to cross another restaurant off my list of Hype List. It was beautiful today, so I decided to order pick up from 67 Burger. I figured the walk would be long enough for me to burn off some of the calories I was about to ingest/inhale.

The interior feels sort of like a cave. You can't see it because of my really crappy point and shoot, but the view from the back window is a wall of the adjacent building. The outside tables seem nice though, especially on a beautiful day like today.

I wouldn't mind eating there myself, if I had friends to actually eat with QQ. I don't know if it's just me or not but I always feel really subconscious eating at a restaurant by myself, even if its just a burger joint.

Here's a shot of exterior.

I ordered an Oreo shake, sweet potato fries, and a bacon cheddar burger with avocado. Damn I feel like a fat ass. Since I got it as pick up, I didn't actually get to photograph the shake. Let's just say it disappeared by the time I arrived home. However I can tell you, that it wasn't that great. It tasted okay, it just wasn't as thick as I thought it would be. That's what she said. Maybe I'm just spoiled from Milk Truck and Shake Shack.

I ordered the burger medium, but it was actually cooked all the way through. Part of that may be due to my slow walking. The bun seemed really blah. I mean sesame seed is classical, but it could have been a brioche or something a little sweeter to contrast that salty bacon. My main complaint is that sesame seed buns are generally thin. It's okay if you're having a low key barbecue with some frozen meat patties that are like a quarter inch thick (if that), but if you're grilling up some half inch + patties with real ground beef the moisture from the burger will cause the bottom bun to become soggy and break apart. Even the cleanest eater would have a difficult time eating that burger without getting grease everywhere.

The second issue was the presentation. It might have been different if I saw it on a plate. You know how every fast food restaurant makes their burgers look so decadent on television, but when you order it, the burger has the diameter of a tennis ball, and is super squished? That's sort of the impression this gave me. The box was super big, but when I opened it, the burger was no larger than a Big Mac, the rest of the space was used for onions lettuce and tomatoes. I'm not hating on the golden arches, because I love me some Big Macs, but the price between the burgers is like $5 vs $12.

Third issue was the avocados. I added the avocado's to the mix because I thought it would be a great addition. However, the avocados were really unripe, and didn't give that buttery avocado flavor I was looking for. For 2 bucks I feel somewhat cheated. The burger was still tasty despite all my little complaints. What it lacked in size, it made up in thickness. That's what she said. It's a really simple burger. You can tell the pickles are the same crinkle cut slices you get in a jar. There wasn't even a signature mayo sauce or anything. Just a simple burger with an extremely high price tag.

Sweet potato fries, well technically they are yam fries. They were okay I suppose. They were kinda soggy, and not as crispy/crunchy as I would have liked. Usually with sweet potato/yam fries, you can either add nutmeg and sugar (possibly brown sugar, cinnamon, and or pumpkin spice) to bring out the natural flavors of the yam, or cayenne. Because everyone knows sweet and spicy are amazing together. And then you just add a hint of salt to balance everything out. They treated the yams like normal fries, and floured them and deep fried them and then salted them. So a burger, fries, and a shake for a total of 22 bucks. Tasty, but not worth the breaking my wallet.
