Connecticut Muffins: In Brooklyn?

Connecticut Muffins is right around the corner from Pratt on Myrtle. I've been hesitant to go because I've read the mixed reviews on Yelp, but today I was literally right in front of the place running errands so I really had no excuse to not try it.

For a place with muffins in their name, they sure don't have a lot of muffins. What they do have, is a decent selection of coffee, baked goods, and paninis. I think they are trying to be a lower key version of Choice Market, but they are losing a lot of the character Choice Market has.

A shot of the interior. In hindsight, I'm not sure why I didn't get the red velvet cake...it looks pretty delicious. You can see there is seating in the back, but the interior doesn't feel welcoming. Most cafes in the area have all wood interiors which creates a very warm and rich environment as opposed to the tile floor you would expect to see in a school cafeteria.

The pumpkin muffin. Slightly smaller than the average cupcake, this muffin was really nothing impressive, which is sad because I love pumpkin everything. It had sprinkled sugar and cinnamon on the top of the muffin. I couldn't really taste the pumpkin, or the 5 spice, or anything one would expect in a pumpkin flavored muffin. $2.50 for a mediocre muffin. Pass.

The chocolate chip scone! It's really hard to mess up chocolate chip anything, but this scone manages just that. It was dry and stale, and fairly flavorless. I was really disappointed. Sorry Connecticut, you're just not cutting it in Brooklyn.
