Pommes Frites: Potatoes Done Right

Another one off the Hype List. I've heard amazing things about Pommes Frites for a while now, and I tonight I finally made my way down there with my friend Jun. Just around the corner from St. Mark's Place in Manhattan, Pommes Frites seems to be the best drunken munchies joint out there. Even without being delightfully inebriated, the fries are still quite delicious.

The shop specializes in authentic Belgian fries, (Pommes Frites is Belgian for french fries). The fries are fried twice, for extra deliciousness, and there is a large selection of sauces to choose from for maximum dipping satisfaction.

A shot of the exterior. It's quite a small place with minimal seating inside. I've heard that the line sometimes extends out the door and around the corner on busy nights, so be warned.

Action shot! The guys were pretty friendly there, and seemed pretty cool about offering free samples of the different mayo flavors and a few fries to try them on. I tried the Dill Lemon Mayo and the Roasted Garlic Mayo. The Garlic won me over. Jun ordered the wild mushroom without trying it. He's ballsy like that.

The assortment of sauces are kept in those little dispensers. They will ask you if you want the sauce on the fries, or on the side. PLEASE get it on the side, I beg of you. Mayo is unbelievably rich, and can overpower/ruin the fries completely if added in large amounts. When you do order on your fries, I feel like they give you a lot more than the little container you get on the side. They also layer the mayo, so its fries, mayo, fries, mayo. It's a shit ton of mayo. Delicious, but rich.

The fries come in a cone made of wax paper. The counters all have holes in them which perfectly fit the cone of fries they give you. Genius!

I like that there are potato sacks in the back. There are two small tables and a bar table with some stools to the right (out of frame).

The good stuff. Yes, I did in fact order it with mayo on the fries. I was feeling adventurous, don't hate. I also ordered a large, which was probably against my better judgement. The portion was huge. Jun ordered a small, but he still couldn't finish it. This is truly 6 dollars worth of fries. Next time though, I will order the fries and get 3 different sauces to try on the side, so if grow tired of one flavor, I can switch it up.

I'm not sure why I've been really into these macro shots lately. It's extremely difficult to get my iphone to create this dof with one hand. I also constantly look around to make sure no one is documenting my mobile photography session. I'm sure someday I will end up on this tumblr. It's only a matter of time.

I'm also experimenting with ads on this blog so bear with me if my blog looks wonky. If I can't get the ads to look nice, I just won't have them. In the meantime you can spam this link so I gain revenue, I think if you actually buy it I get a small commission.
