Waza Sushi: Gimme Ramen
Today was a rainy day. We had just finished with a quiz that we all know we failed, and was in desperate need of a pick me up. The best thing for a rainy day, as any Seattleite would know, is pho. Unfortunately pho is all the way in Park Slope and we can't be bothered traveling 20 minutes out while this depressed. So the next best thing is ramen.
The closest sushi/ramen place to Pratt is Waza Sushi. And that is where we went.
Here's a shot of the exterior.
Here's a shot of the interior. Man, that guy looks like he's really enjoying himself.
The service was a little slow that day, but despite that everything else was fine. I've been here a few times before, and I have to say the sushi is pretty decent. It's not the best sushi in the world, but definitely not the worst. The pricing is what you would expect of a sushi joint, a little steep. The portion of ramen you get is enough to fill me, so it's definitely enough to fill you.
I generally come here for the ramen which runs for $10 a bowl. I ordered the miso, but the classic is also quite tasty. It's not Ippudo or Totto, but it's still pretty good. The broth is flavorful, but you can tell it's not from scratch (they also have a chicken based broth for non-pork eaters). The noodles lack the texture one would expect of noodles. They garnish the ramen with some chopped scallions, three pieces of pork, a seaweed square, and some cabbage. The spicy tuna salad, and spicy tuna rolls are pretty tasty also if you feel like something besides ramen.
*UPDATE* It's mid-reviews here at Pratt, and with Mid-Reviews means take out. I decided to try the spicy tuna salad, and miso soup, and it was pretty delicious. I'm not a big fan of salad but seriously this was amazing. The soft meaty texture of the tuna contrasted with the crisp crunch of the veggies was really nice. The dressing they used was similar to a spicy mayo that you would find on sushi rolls, which really pulled the whole thing together. Even though it was takeout, the presentation was still on point. Bonus points for making my meal look appetizing after transport. The miso soup was mainly because I was feeling a bit under the weather, but was still quite tasty. There's a few pieces of nori in there, as well as some chopped scallions just for a bit of substance.
