Mark's Gourmet Burgers: Don't Bother Me, I'm Eating

Today was raining again, and I was stuck at studio doing work for a class that doesn't really matter. I didn't want to go home to make something to eat, but didn't want to venture into the rain to look for food. Then I remembered that a new burger place had opened up on Myrtle.

I noticed it a few days ago when I was going to the post office. On that day, Mark's Gourmet Burgers was having their grand opening and had a huge green banner. Ever since the disappointing 67 Burger, I've been looking for something to revitalize my love for a beef patty between buns. Well Mark, I have to say...

...that you hit the spot, or should I say you hit the mark (badum-chi). The photos don't really do this place justice. I'll be the first to admit the images look kinda gross, but I'm guessing it's because the burger was roughed up in delivery. Moving along, I ordered the Greek Burger which is described as feta cheese, tomato, onion, with cucumber sauce. It was amazing.

The beef patty was 1/3 lb of beef. They ask if you want the patty 1/3 lb or 1/2 lb when you order. I know a half bitten burger isn't necessarily the most appealing thing to look at, but notice how they put all the wet ingredients under the beef patty. That means all of the beef and tomato juices are going straight into the bottom bun. This setup would leave most buns soggy, but not this bad boy. This sweet brioche bun is cut almost in half, leaving the bottom bun almost as thick as the top ensuring safe and clean eating. The feta cheese worked really well with the cucumber sauce. I wouldn't call this burger refreshing, since that's the first thing I think of when I see cucumber, but I would say its feels less greasy despite the girth of the burger. Next time though I think I'll stick with the classic, or a bacon cheese burger.

I also got an order of sweet potato fries. Believe me, there is nothing gourmet about these. They were pretty soggy. That may have been due to the rain/delivery, but when I got them they were soggy. They also still had the skin on them, like potato wedges, except I felt they weren't really fried long enough, so the skin was just tough and chewy instead of crispy and delicious. Again the sweet potato fries were seasoned with salt instead of a cayenne or pumpkin spice. I think next time I'll get regular fries or try their portobello fries. And what is a classic burger and fries without a Coke? Of course I'm talking about the Mexican Coke that comes in a glass bottle and has cane sugar, don't be silly.

And of course I write my name on duct tape to label my desk. It's what all the cool kids are doing, duh.
