Juniper: Dis Ain't No Berry
The food at Juniper's is amazing. When I first moved to Brooklyn I researched some local burger places and Juniper caught my eye. The place is surprisingly small for all the hype it has received on Yelp, but the food doesn't disappoint.
If you only had one day to explore Brooklyn, I would recommend eating here. It should not be a surprise that I celebrated my birthday here either. Oh, and of course it's cash only. It's BK , just assume everywhere you go is cash only...because it is.
The exterior is small and green. At first glance, one wouldn't expect to find a restaurant at that location.
The interior has a really nice ambiance The high bar table with the old school cash register really set the vibe. It's a BYOB sort of place, though I've been told the alcohol license is already been submitted and is awaiting approval. There's several tables inside, and also a back patio for nice spring/summer evenings. The interior is dimly lit, so the pics Lily and I took aren't spectacular, but we weren't far from it.
This is the pulled pork burger. This is Lily's go to dish at Juniper. The menu only consists of a handful of items, but everything on the menu is delicious. Each dish is executed perfectly and presented in a very artistic manner. My personal favorites are the baked mac and cheese (for 7 dollars it makes a great lunch) and the grilled burger. The spicy fries are not spicy, but I find them to be seasoned perfectly. The sweet potatoes fries also add a nice change of pace. The jambalaya is also amazing...you seriously have to try it. It's spicy, delicious, and VERY filling especially on a cold day.
Here's a shot of the spicy fries that are seasoned oh so perfectly.
This is my go to make in cheese. Look at all that melted cheesy goodness drip down from over the edge of the bowl. Baked to perfection, the creamy cheesy sauce and macaroni mixture is topped with Rice Krispies cereal to ensure a burst of texture in every bite. It's a really rich dish, so you'll want to grab a soda if you get it.
Look at my cheesin over there. Cheesier than that mac n cheese. The atmosphere is very friendly. I have experienced anywhere from a 15-40 minute wait since Tom is the only one in the kitchen. It really depends on how busy it is. In this part of the town, business usually picks up after 8. This is probably one of the cheapest meals you could get in Williamsburg.
Tom, the owner and chef, usually comes out after your meal to ask you personally how you liked it. You can tell this is a restaurant that strives to satisfy their customers. He's a really funny guy, with lots to chat about so don't be shy.
